Architect Frank Lloyd Wright provided the inspiration behind this stylish brick home. Its owners researched his work before commissioning architectural practice, Fredman Malina Architecture to create their very own masterpiece.
Architect, John Malina worked closely with his clients to deliver a home that is ‘timeless, enduring and low-maintenance’.
“Our clients were taken with Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. Especially the use and combination of materials such as face brick, continuous glazing details and the scale created with wide overhanging eaves.
“The home incorporates a number of ecologically sustainable design features - which we believe is a responsible approach to any new home design – the home is north facing and the over-hanging eaves provide weather protection as well as other benefits. The vast areas of protected glazing, also offers the opportunity for cross ventilation, limiting the need for air-conditioning.
“The design of the home has ensured the majority of the living spaces have access to a north orientation making them light filled and warm.
“In winter the sun penetrates deep into each room and in summer the angles of the home provides protection ensuring the sun doesn’t penetrate as deeply,” John said.
The brickwork forms the core of the natural building materials, which contribute to the character of the house.
They complement the proportions of the home, offering horizontal lines that mirror the wide eaves and blend beautifully with the cedar window frames.
“We are very proud of how this home design and the owners enjoy living in it which is, of course, the best outcome an architect can wish for,” John said.
