Knox Grammar Great Hall + Aquatic Centre

Knox Grammar School for boys opened its doors in 1924 with 28 students and has continued to grow with now over 2000 students from kindergarten to Year 12. Knox connects deeply to its history, traditions and values, whilst maintaining the flexibility to be innovative and evolve with the times.

The design by Jones Sonter Architects for the Knox Grammar Great Hall and Aquatic Centre recognises the foundation values of the school, and incorporates these with meeting the daily requirements for sporting and education facilities.

The Great Hall has the capacity to seat up to 2300 people, with ceremonial stairs addressing the school boulevard. In addition to its function as a place of assembly, the Great Hall is designed to accommodate three indoor basketball courts with spectator seating. Beneath the Great Hall is the new Aquatic Centre, which includes a 50m competition pool, a separate learn to swim facility and a fully equipped gym.

The built form character of Knox Grammar School is intimately connected with the character of the traditional brickwork that is evident throughout the school campus. The design for the Great Hall reinforces the continuity of this historic character, with finely detailed masonry featuring the familiar Knox motifs and decorative elements.
