Design Statement
The Balford Street Park project created a small scale neighbourhood park within the existing geometry of O'Connor and Wellington Streets, by closing part of O'Conner Street. The new pocket park forms a gateway to the Carlton United Brewery site, linking to the public spaces to become part of a pedestrian connection between Chippendale and Broadway.
When the CUB redevelopment is complete, the park will be activated by a commercial building on the eastern edge, contributing to the diverse mix of commerce and living in this part of Chippendale. It will provide breakout space for workers and residents, as well as a through space for the wider Chippendale community. In the meantime, the park is a space for community
