Mary Mount Collage - (Commercial)

Marymount College is a Catholic Girls middle school in Hove, South Australia. The brief for Marymount College called for the design and construction of a Multi-purpose Hall, Dance & Drama Centre, involving the erection of a new Multipurpose Hall (930sqm approx), alterations to the existing Drama/Sports Hall (520sqm approx) and associated site works to an approximate project value of $3.6 million. The purpose of this wall is manifold; the bold curved descending gesture immediately identifies the entry of the new complex from both the north and east as well amalgamating the scales of the single storey canteen with the massive 9m high pre cast concrete walls of the new sports hall. Face brick was selected because of its materiality and flexibility. Its durability; it allows the gesture with the flexibility to form a subtle cross of brick batt coursing on the external face (as a reminder of the school's religious traditions). On a visit to PGH, the blue steel flash brick was selected because of its properties, mottled metallic colour and its texture.
