DESIGN STATEMENT
...the necessity to increase urban densities in our suburbs
will result in the loss of private garden areas... 1
Typically when an increase in built density occurs a decrease in green amenity is the consequence. Our proposal facilitates increased suburban density and converts linear green space previously in the form of nature strips into consolidated multi-use public open spaces. These public open spaces will also become transport hubs for green travel options including light rail, bus, "park and ride" and cycling.
Our proposal broadens the suburban concept of street, increases amenity, protects the suburban backyard and finds a solution to existing unsustainable, car dependant transport infrastructure.
Our solution will enliven and invigorate suburban living while adhering to the sustainable agenda (and uses a shipload of bricks).
