Port Central Paving
The Port Central Office Park is designed for an urban area, with linking walkways in all directions, and paving which will create civic character.
The external building pavement will provide a bold pattern alternating three types of coloured paving with garden and turf.
Sheltered and shaded outdoor rooms are created by the placement of gardens and benches. Long recycled wharf piles are to be used as benches. Stainless steel arch style bike racks will create a contemporary look while acting as civic barriers at the entry and the café zone. A wind sheltered café promenade has been created near the landmark water tank.
A strong environmental mandate has been applied to the site with overland stormwater grading into gardens for water harvesting, minimal use of kerb and channel, and reduced glare/hardstand car parking surfaces. Permeable paving in some car parking areas is also utilized.
All plants will be native to the port ecological zone, and will comprise predominantly of shade trees with a low/mid understory, allowing visibility between building precincts. The central courtyard will continue the external paving treatment to create an integrated civic precinct. A water feature and sitting deck will be framed by more luxuriant native plants, palms and pandanus.
