The Orangery, Savill Court Hotel, Windsor, UK
Located in secluded parkland on the edge of Windsor Great Park, Savill Court Hotel was designed both as a landmark and wedding/conference venue.
The new Orangery replaces the existing function room and its design is a sensitive and elegant extension to a historic building.
DLA Architecture specified imperial size bricks to match the existing hotel and provide a slimmer, more detailed texture to the building, particularly noticeable on the circular form. Completed in May 2006, brick provides the project with a timeless quality that is essential to the success of a new building in this historic setting.
The Orangery is constructed to a symmetrical, almost classical form. Simple detailing and the absence of ornamentation, ground the building in the 21st century while giving it an elegance and lightness.
