Designed to revitalise the local town’s waterfront area, this recent development was named as the runner up in the 2006 UK Brick Development Association Brick Awards for Best private housing development.

High-rise apartments and four-storey town houses arranged around the perimeter of the site create a large triangular urban green space.  The public open space and other features create a tranquil and attractive environment for residents encouraging active use of the area.

A focal point for the development, designed by architects Barefoot and Gilles, is a seven-storey elliptical “landmark” tower, which overlooks the main access route from the town centre.

A combination of high-tech and traditional materials have been used to provide a striking visual effect.

The apartment blocks each comprise a plinth of dark red brickwork to the ground floor with strongly recessed openings and are finished with multi-cream face bricks.

The terraces each comprise banded red and cream brickwork to the ground floor, using the same bricks as the apartments for continuity.
