At the St Vincents Society's request, images were incorporated into the brickwork on the front and rear western façades of the main brick core. At the front, a large cross is picked out in stack bond, the bricks being set out approximately 15mm to create a shadow line and thus a more defined appearance. An eye-catching mural of St Vincent with a baby and a young child is the outstanding feature of the rear facade.

However, in order to achieve the complex shapes of the motif successfully, it was necessary to use a Flemish bond in contrast to the typical stretcher bond which was used generally to the brick core. The motif brick was of a smoother finish to the general textured background brick so that it would only be evident through the light reflectivity rather than through the more obvious colour definition."

The Paynter Dixon/Jackson Teece team chose Boral Nuvo bricks in Coco, Mist and Victorian Blue because as Andy says, "We were looking for products that responded to the neighbouring brick buildings but with a colour and texture which complemented the sandstone basement plinth of the new building with a hand-made appearance. We also needed a smoother brick finish of similar colour in which to highlight feature motifs which formed an integral component of the brick core elevations.
